My student’s name is Julia. She is 14-year-old female who is in the 9th grade. She is a shy student who is enthusiastic about her studies. She comes off shy but personable. She is soft-spoken but you can see she has a twinkle in her eye when she discusses topics she finds important. She seems like she will answer my questions but I need to have follow up questions to get a deeper understanding of her responses. In general, she seems like she has a purpose in school and this is communicated in her demeanor. She does not have an “I do not want to be here” posture.
Julia has 8 course this term. Her first period class is English/ Language Arts I, M-W and Thursday because the period is odd numbered. Thursdays and Fridays are extended block schedules with the odd numbered periods on Thursday, evens on Friday. Second period, Advisory 9, Fridays (even) and IB MYP U.S. History, M-W, Fridays. Third period, IB MYP Earth Science, M-W, Thursdays. Fourth Period, IB MYP Spanish II, M-W, Friday. Fifth period, IB MYP Design Technology III, M-W, Thursdays. Sixth period, IB MYP Health and Fitness, M-W, Friday, and IB MYP Algebra I, M-W, Thursday.
Julia has been at York-International since she was in the Fourth grade. York-International is an IB (International Baccalaureate) and is authorized for the Primary Years Program, and Middle Years Program. York has a higher work load and regular classes at York are equivalent to honors courses at other schools. The expectation is that York students will be able to take college equivalency courses by their Junior year. She was at Clayton Partnership School (K-8) from kindergarten through the third grade. Clayton is another school within the Mapleton School District.
